Cableway Airolo-Pesciüm - Summer
At the gates of the Swiss south, just where people exit the Gotthard tunnels by car or train, there is one of the most underestimated alpine recreation and sports areas of Switzerland.
The alpine landscape offers a splendid panoramic view of the Gotthard, the Bedretto Valley and the Leventina Valley. In summer, Pesciüm is the starting point for numerous hiking trails and an increasingly popular destination for cyclists and bikers in search of fun and adrenaline.
In 60 minutes from Lugano, professional and amateur sportsmen and women, trekking enthusiasts or simply mountain lovers will find everything they are looking for, in a single station.
Pesciüm is a large-scale panoramic terrace that towers above the village of Airolo. It is one of the most appreciated touristic attractions in the Leventina Valley and easily accessible with the daily running modern cable car infrastructure that brings visitors up to Sasso della Boggia on 2065meters above sea level. The viewpoint in Pesciüm offers you a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains.
The paths branch off in various directions: follow the Sentiero Alto del Tremorgio, shaded and with varied vegetation, along which you will meet the Ravina Alp and the village of Giovett and then reach the magnificent Lake Tremorgio, or immerse yourself in the wild nature, made of bright colors, relaxing silences and alpine pastures along the "Strada degli Alpi" of the Bedretto Valley, to discover an incredibly fascinating region located directly in front of the magnificent Gotthard massif.
The area of Airolo-Pesciüm is also increasingly emerging as a paradise for mountain bikers. The offer is constantly expanding and in summer 2019 two new trails dedicated to lovers of two-wheeled descents were inaugurated, the Runcasc and Bosco Trail, which offer bumps, jumps and very fun parabolics, and represent a novelty in Ticino!
These trails are suitable both for the more experienced, looking for great doses of adrenaline, but also for those who are just starting out with the descents between obstacles and roots, allowing everyone to find what they are looking for.
Thanks to the installation of a charging station in Pesciüm, the area can also be easily visited by electric bicycle. E-bikers can therefore enjoy the panorama and the open air in complete peace and quiet along the Ponte Filippi-Pesciüm and Fontana-Pesciüm routes, all to be discovered.
You can also enjoy the panorama from the new terrace in Pesciüm and taste the delicacies of the mountain restaurant La Stüa, which was renovated at the end of 2019. The cuisine, directed by Alberto Bottinelli and Martina Morelli, offers daily local products processed in a simple and carefully prepared way, so that you can perceive the flavours of traditional mountain cuisine. At the end of the day you can finally relax at the bar La Chièuna, a meeting point for sportsmen and not of the upper Leventina, which will wait for you for a fun Après-Bike with music in the background.
